NAMM 2017: The All-New Taylor Academy Series / GS Mini Bass

With Winter NAMM 2017 now under way, we’re poised and at the ready for news of new and exciting releases coming from brands far and wide. Right away, Taylor Guitars have unveiled their new series of Academy Series Acoustics alongside an addition to their popular GS Mini family – The GS Mini E Bass.

The Academy Series will become available later in the year in 3 separate models in acoustic, electro-acoustic and left-handed varieties and will provide a high-quality instrument for learners and seasoned guitarists alike at a competitive price point. Strummers will feel at home on the A10 Dreadnought model; Finger-pickers may favour the A12 Grand Concert; Classical guitarists would do well to try the A12-N Nylon Grand Concert model.

Designed by Taylor’s Master Designer, Andy Powell, the models feature some great new features with learners in-mind to make practise and playing a much more enjoyable experience to those all-too-familiar with the feeling of learning on an instrument that they’ve never quite clicked with.

A slim neck profile and contoured arm rest on the body will provide comfortable playability, and pairing these features with the clear tone that Taylor guitars are known for  have made this announcement something we’re eager to see for ourselves in-store.

Bassists haven’t been left out either – 2017 will see the arrival of the Taylor GS Mini E Bass guitar which will provide an easy-playing acoustic bass guitar in a compact format. The instruments will be fitted an ES-B preamp system, allowing for the bass to be plugged in and amplified.

Here’s what Taylor have to say about the new model:

“Thanks to breakthrough Taylor design, the GS Mini Bass offers players a remarkably inviting small-scale acoustic bass that’s compact, lightweight and ultra-comfortable on the hands. Adding to the popular heritage of our GS Mini family, this four-string bass sibling is even more impressive for its ability to create natural-sounding bass notes despite a condensed 23-1/2-inch scale length — about 10 inches shorter than the scale length of a standard bass guitar.”
