Strymon's Sunset Overdrive presents an incredibly versatile pedal for almost any guitarist - two channels, with six high-quality circuits (three either side), tuned by Strymon's engineers to be either complimentary and capable of being used alone - make it an amazing option for any of your overdrive needs.

Channel A:

  • Ge - a soft clipping Germanium stage, clipping just enough to give a good push - incredibly fattening for single coils, and can give a good push with humbuckers
  • Texas - a familiar, mid-range pushed sound. A single soft-stage of clipping provide a smooth and dynamic OD, with plenty of dynamics - perfect for either blues, or just the preferred mid-range bump.
  • Treble - This boost is designed to cut low end as you go louder, allowing you to push even a loose amp or drive another pedal without fears of getting too bassy. Or turn the tone down to bring the low-end back in for a great all-rounder.

Channel B:

  • 2Stage - combining a soft-stage clipper and a hard-stage clipper creates a gain stage with plenty of versatility, capable of full-on saturation all the way down to sparkly clipping. EQ'd to retain low-end.
  • Hard - A single, simple hard clipping stage make this the channel for gain, approaching fuzz levels - but at lower levels, find a much tamer, transparent drive - use the Tone knob to add some buzz or keep it smooth.
  • JFET - a clean JFET boost, great for beefing and warming up a signal while retaining dynamics and response - a thick round low end accompany it, perfect for when your amp needs just a little bit more.

And to let Strymon explain the rest:

Sunset gives you the best of the best classic overdrive circuits, custom voiced for instantly gratifying control over a huge range of sought-after tones. We studied six circuit types found in many truly timeless and iconic overdrive and boost pedals, and put our takes on all six of them into a single two-channel unit.

Sunset is really two customizable overdrive pedals, independently selectable and flexibly routable, designed and voiced for complementary tones when stacked. Six distinct circuits each feel and react differently in your hands, two at once, all in one convenient package. Push your amp any way you want, from transparent “more amp” to heavy saturated fuzz, and all the best places in between.

Optimized Stacking.

Since the time when overdrives were created to simply push an amp in order to achieve an overdriven sound even at sane volume levels, players have evolved to want more layered, multistage tonalities. Stacking gives you more flexibility and tone range on the floor. You can find an overdrive that sounds good on its own, then run it through a second drive to add new dimensions to your tone. Sunset allows you to use any of its six overdrive circuits on their own, or route the Channel A drive circuit through Channel B, or Channel B through Channel A, or use two circuits in parallel. Routing options have been chosen deliberately to present the best-sounding combinations of drive circuits. Sunset eliminates the guesswork.

Digital or analog? We chose both.

Sunset’s input features an ultra low noise, discrete, class-A JFET circuit providing up to 20dB of pure analog gain. With our hybrid approach you get the best of both analog and digital worlds: The JFET stage provides exceptional touch sensitivity and dynamic interaction with your guitar, while the incredibly powerful SHARC DSP facilitates the great level of detailed complexity and responsiveness you’ll want to hear.

Features:

  • Bright Switch - Sunset’s three-position Bright switch is custom voiced to perfectly tailor the highest frequencies of your output signal. Minus (-) smooths the top end to work well with amps or speakers that have a brighter voice. Neutral (center) provides a balanced top end that works with a variety of amps and speakers. Plus (+) delivers extended high end detail to the warmest amps.
  • Noise Reduction - Sunset has an optional, variable-threshold noise reduction feature to tame hum, buzz, and system noise when you’re not playing. A downward expander with advanced signal detection techniques creates a seamless transition to noise reduced silence with all types of input signal dynamics, including staccato bursts and slowly decaying sustained notes.
  • Favorite - Sunset allows you to save and recall your favorite settings. Just connect an optional MiniSwitch or other external latching footswitch with a TRS cable to store and recall your Favorite setting.
  • Expression - Connect an expression pedal, and enjoy a whole new level of instantaneous, continuous control. Set as many knobs as you like for the heel position and toe position of your expression pedal, and all settings will simultaneously morph throughout the full range of the expression pedal. Sunset becomes part of your musical instrument, an extension of your musical voice, an active part of your performance.
  • Volume Mode - The Expression pedal jack can be set up in Volume Mode, which provides a logarithmic taper for smooth volume control, even when Sunset is in bypass mode. If you have an expression pedal, this provides an excellent alternative to a standalone Volume pedal.

Strymon are a boutique effects company that are regarded by many players as the premier brand for delay and modulation effects. In a matter of weeks after it’s release the El Capistan d-tape delay pedal started to appear on the boards of lots of pro players and has stayed there ever since. The engineers at Strymon go to great lengths to research and perfect each effect before revealing them to the outside world, as a result each pedal in the range has become the industry standard and Strymon a byword for quality. Every pedal is housed in a heavy duty casing and each comes with a supplied power supply unit.

We Welcome Part Exchange

We welcome part exchanges on items over £500. We realise that sometimes you need to “move something on” to get your new guitar. We give fair prices and once agreed we stick to them. The only thing we ask is that you accurately describe your guitar. We have plenty of happy customers from our part exchange scheme.

How it works – If you are local, you can simply call in. If you are not local we will assess your guitar and give you a valuation via phone/e-mail (we may ask for pictures). Once the price is agreed, we always stick to it, and your new guitar will be removed from the market so the deal can be concluded.

You can either send us your guitar, or we can use our courier to pick up for a small charge (UK only). Once the guitar is with us and any balance is paid we can dispatch your new guitar.
