This is one for players and collectors alike...

For the players, we have a 1959 Reissue Spec Les Paul Standard dating back to 1989. The guitar has been played, and has numerous hallmarks of wear and play on the back of the body in the form of dents and wearing to the finish and wood. There are also a number of signs of play on top of the body, as well as some fretwear to note. The fretwear doesn't cause playability issues, and the guitar has recently been set up by our technician so that it is playing nicely. We also set our guitars up before shipping, meaning that you will have it delivered and playing as you like it the moment you open the case.

Speaking of the case, it is the original which is included. Much like the guitar, it is showing signs of wear and the original handle has been replaced. The cases that Gibson included with these models are brown/pink-lined cases with a fabric guitar cover.

For the collectors, the 'Prehistoric' range of Les Pauls are hard to come by and were produced before Gibson Custom Shop was founded in 1993. Any reissue models made prior to this date are given the 'pre-historic' tag due to preceding their first 'Historic' models from 1993 onwards - More commonly known as the 'R9' model. These don't crop up often and this could be for you if you're on the lookout for a rarer breed of 1959 Reissue.

The guitar is mostly original, with the exception of the pickups, which were changed by the original owner in 1992 to Gibson's Classic '57 Pickups and they have a great tone to them. The machines heads are the original ones and are fully functioning, although we would point out that the E and B machines turn more easily than the rest of the tuners, although this does not cause detuning issues - We simply feel that this is worth mentioning for the sake of transparency on the condition of the guitar.

All-in-all, it's an interesting piece and is a proper work horse - A '59 is a '59, after all!

Gibson Guitars are known throughout the world for their high end guitars of which the most famous would be the ‘Les Paul’. Gibson guitars get better with age and it is these vintage and second hand guitars that we have here at Toneworld. These mature Gibson guitars are of excellent quality, great sounding and have much more playing life to offer.

We Welcome Part Exchange

We welcome part exchanges on items over £500. We realise that sometimes you need to “move something on” to get your new guitar. We give fair prices and once agreed we stick to them. The only thing we ask is that you accurately describe your guitar. We have plenty of happy customers from our part exchange scheme.

How it works – If you are local, you can simply call in. If you are not local we will assess your guitar and give you a valuation via phone/e-mail (we may ask for pictures). Once the price is agreed, we always stick to it, and your new guitar will be removed from the market so the deal can be concluded.

You can either send us your guitar, or we can use our courier to pick up for a small charge (UK only). Once the guitar is with us and any balance is paid we can dispatch your new guitar.
